PROGRESS ON THE FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM DESIGNED AND INSTALLED BY FAELSAFE LTD FOR EMPOWER IN MAURITANIA IS DELAYED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION DELAYS

Empower is currently building a 36MW HFO-fired generation plant for SOMELEC, the Mauritanian national electricity company, under an EPC turn-key contract.

The plant is being assembled in an industrial area approximately 10 km south west of the capital Nouakchott and will increase SOMELEC’s installed capacity in Nouakchott by around 50%.

This will enable the utility to decommission expensive emergency diesel generators and supply a more affordable and reliable power supply to the country

Specifications: the Empower plant will consist of 3 x 12MW modular blocks, each comprising three 4MW medium speed engines from MAN Diesel of Germany. The plant will include a tank farm that can store 8,000 tons of fuel and will connect into a new 33kV substation built by SOMELEC.

The plant will run on HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil), the most affordable fuel currently available in Mauritania.
